- Acoustics 2011 at the Gold Coast

-
The Chairman of the Organising Committee for Acoustics 2011 at the Gold Coast, from November 2-4, 2011 is Mr Matthew Terlich, Senior Acoustic and Vibration Consultant.
Over 100 papers will be presented at the conference from acoustic engineers, consultants, academics and researchers nationwide and from around the world.
- Acoustics 2011 at the Gold Coast

-
Senior staff from Savery & Associates will be presenting papers at Acoustics 2011 at the Gold Coast, from November 2-4, 2011.
Mr John Savery, Managing Director, will be present "Noise constraints for coal seam gas development and operations".
Mr Matthew Terlich, Senior Consultant, will present “The peril of ignoring insect noise in the assessment of ambient noise levels”.
- Appointment of Acoustics & Vibration Manager

-
Savery and Associates is pleased to announce the appointment of David Borgeaud as Manager, Acoustics and Vibration.
David has over 25 years experience in the Acoustics consulting industry in Australia, and brings a wealth of technical and management expertise.
His technical skills cover all aspects of acoustics and vibration spanning small refurbishments to major industrial, infrastructure and building projects lasting several years.
David's appointment strengthens the company's position as a leading supplier of Acoustic & Vibration Consulting services.
- Fourth International Meeting on Wind Turbine Noise

-
Mr Matthew Terlich, Senior Consultant, presented a paper titled “The Case for Spectral Measurements of Ambient Noise Levels in the Assessment of Wind Farms” at the Wind Turbine Noise Conference in Rome, Italy, in April 2011.
- New Office

-
Savery and Associates moved to new offices at The Gap Village on 1 August 2010. The additional floor space and facilities will facilitate growth and expansion of services and resources for all clients around Australia.
- Marine Noise Propagation

-
A noise propagation model for proposed impact piling works in the new Townsville Marine Precinct has recently been developed. The work was carried out in consultation with Dr Alec Duncan of the Curtin Centre for Marine Science and Technology utilising the CMST AcTUP underwater noise propagation modelling suite. The modelling predictions were field tested in 2011 by direct underwater noise sampling during piling utilising the Soundbook measurement platform, to determine peak-pressure and cumulative piling noise exposures relevant to protection of marine fauna such as dolphin, marine turtles and dugong.
- Internoise Conference

-
Mr John Savery, Principal Acoustics and Mrs Gaye Savery, Director attended the INTERNOISE engineering noise control conference in Lisbon, Portugal, from July 11-14, 2010. Over 900 papers were presented from noise control engineers, consultants, academics and researchers from around the world.
- Gladstone Harbour Baseline Underwater Noise

-
Measurements of underwater noise recorded using the Soundbook and Reson Hydrophone have quantified the diverse range of ambient underwater noise environments extending from the proposed LNG pipeline crossing site at Laird Point, through to the existing coal loading facilities near Clinton Wharf.
- Stimulating Coal Seam Gas Flow

-
Hydraulic Fracture Stimulation (called “fraccing”) of wells releases coal seam gas from underground coal seams. Noise measurements during the first use of the new Schlumberger fraccing rig were conducted near Chinchilla in 2010.
- Noise Logging 2010 Style

-
For noise assessment of a new rail line from central Queensland to the coastal port, the noise loggers used for monitoring baseline noise levels along the proposed route were deployed and collected by helicopter. One-third octave noise loggers enable the contribution of insects to be quantified.
- SoundPLAN 7.1

-
Savery & Associates are now using the latest release of SoundPLAN®, a software suite created by professionals in noise and air pollution engineering for professionals working with noise and air pollution scenarios.
Noise modelling encompasses traffic noise, occupational noise indoors and outdoors, general industrial noise and aircraft noise. More than 50 calculation standards are implemented to satisfy the needs of noise control engineers worldwide.
- Reson Hydrophone TC4032

-
Savery & Associates are using the Reson TC4032 general purpose hydrophone to assess underwater noise impacts from vessels, dredges and long range marine piling & blasting.
The high sensitivity and acoustic characteristics makes TC4032 capable of producing absolute sound measurements and detecting even very weak signals at levels below "Sea State 0".
- Neumann KU100 Dummy Head

-
Savery & Associates have recently acquired a Neumann KU100 dummy head for realistic recordings of room acoustics.
It resembles the human head and has two microphone capsules built into the ears, which when using headphones replicates the sound heard at the recording location.
When the recorded audio signal is reproduced through high-quality headphones the listener perceives a sound image almost identical to the one he would have heard at the recording location of the dummy head.
