Container Terminal, Moolabin
Monitoring of noise levels due to container loading and unloading operations at the QRX terminal at Moolabin. Monitoring was conducted simultaneously inside the terminal and at selected external locations to investigate the cause of excessive noise emission levels reported by a community complainant. The source of the noise was identified and a staged noise mitigation program was recommended to the operator of the terminal.

Expert acoustic witness for Scenic Rim Regional Council against Refaka Pty Ltd (Planning and Environment Court BD1834 of 2009). Case involved appeal related to refusal of additional 800,000 tonnes per annum carriage of quarry product by road transport, mostly through Beaudesert township. The Court ruled against the quarry and the appeal was refused.

Gaven Quarry
Expert witness for Gold Coast City Council against Hanson Construction Pty Ltd. Case was an appeal against a refusal to extend road transport hours along Hymix Road from 6pm to 10pm on week days. Hymix Road abuts the rear of residential properties on one side and bushland on the other side. The Court ruled against the quarry and the appeal was refused.

Rock-hammering, Fortitude Valley
A carpark was the site of the proposed new police station in Fortitude Valley. Preliminary excavation of the carpark was conducted with a 32 tonne excavator with a ripper hook and bucket attachments. Trial rock-hammering was then conducted with the excavator fitted with a City G88 impact hammer. Vibration monitoring was conducted at the foot of the adjacent wall and in the office the adjacent architect’s office. Vibration levels were compared with normal acceptance guidelines.

Multi-User Depot, RAAF Amberley (CAG)
Development of training facilities near RAAF Amberley. Savery & Associates undertook the facade design for the Schematic Design stage of the project, which included consideration of two possible sites for the facility. Aircraft noise level contours generated from ANEF modelling were used as input to the design process, and several wall, window, door and roof constructions were considered. The facilities included: band classrooms, video conference rooms, teaching spaces and offices. The input formed an important part of the cost plan to enable planning decisions for the project to be confirmed.

Ladewig ats Department of Main Roads (File AQ L117-07) claim for compensation related to adverse noise impact from trucks on new duplicated highway at Eumundi at night. Evidence indicated new overpass contributed to the noise problem due to the change in level and character of the noise of passing trucks on the highway.

Survey of occupational noise levels throughout the glass bottle manufacturing factory at South Brisbane. Short duration noise level measurements and the partial noise dose method were used to estimate daily noise exposure doses. The daily noise exposure levels of individual employees were checked using personal noise dosimeters.

Aircraft Noise Impact on Facades Containing Balconies
Investigation of the effect upon aircraft noise on facades for units having balconies with soffits providing shielding to the airspace above. Testing was conducted to determine the effect of facade and balcony orientation to the flight path direction and the effect of soffits having varying acoustic absorption properties. Testing was conducted using a mock-up facade with balconies located under the flight path on the direct approach to Brisbane Airport.

Testing to determine contributing factors to noise complaints regarding swimming pool and spa pumps located on domestic residential allotments. Testing included a range of pump types and sizes under normal and cavitating operating conditions. Determination of cost-effective noise control measures.
